Did you know
  • Canal Fulton is a merger: the city took its present name in 1832 from the Ohio & Erie Canal plus local pioneer Ben Fulton, then in 1853 absorbed the neighboring villages of Milan (platted 1814) and West Fulton.
  • The plant deliberately leaves the hardness in — a February 2024 finished-water sample came back at 313 mg/L, about 18.3 grains per gallon.
  • The booster pump for the new water tower carried a 52-week manufacturing lead time, a big part of why the project ran long.
  • The new tower, about 1,200 feet up off State Route 21, was built to get city water to at least 32 residents on Skyview Drive and Wooster Street for the first time.
  • Canal Fulton had two boil advisories within three weeks in 2026: a Locust Street main shutdown in late February, then a system-wide one in mid-March after high winds knocked out the treatment plant's pumps overnight.

Sewers

Sanitary

Canal Fulton operates its own Wastewater Treatment Plant at 5500 Butterbridge Road N.W., under the same superintendent as the water plant. Water and sewer are billed together on one monthly bill due the 20th. No sewer rate schedule, plant capacity, CSO inventory or consent decree is published on the city site.

Storm

Storm sewer repairs were being carried out alongside the Locust Street water main replacement, with that remaining work due to finish by the end of 2026. No separate stormwater utility, fee or flooding documentation was found.

Estimated, not measured. No rain gauge has ever stood inside 44614 (Lawrence Township and Canal Fulton), so every figure here is worked out from the gauges around it - the nearest ones weighted most. Treat them as close estimates rather than readings.

48,501 days of records, 1893-01-01 to 2026-10-29. Source: NOAA NCEI GHCN-Daily, 3,240 gauges in and around Ohio. A day is "gauged" when a gauge standing inside the boundary reported it, and the value is the mean of those gauges. Otherwise it is interpolated by inverse distance from every gauge reporting within 50 miles. Nothing is carried forward, back-filled or smoothed. Against NOAA nClimDiv county monthly precipitation over 136,848 complete county-months (checked 2026-10-31): correlation 0.9515, median absolute difference 0.217 in a month. Built 2026-10-31 from the Cracked Buckeye precipitation archive. Snow is the softer number — snowfall is measured by hand with a ruler, no agency publishes a gridded county snowfall series, and blowing snow defeats every observer.
