How developed is the land?
The National Land Cover Database classifies every 30 metre pixel of the country from Landsat imagery: four intensities of developed land, forest, cropland, pasture, grass and shrub, water, wetland and barren ground, with companion layers for percent impervious surface and tree canopy. The map shows the developed share of each ZIP's land; the card gives the full breakdown, the impervious share (roofs and pavement that shed rain straight into storm drains and streams) and the tree canopy. The USDA Cropland Data Layer splits the cropland into corn, soybeans, wheat and hay. A last row reaches back before settlement: what the original land surveys of the early 1800s recorded on the same ground, from ODNR's mapping of the surveyors' notes, including how much was swamp, marsh or prairie.
1,233 of 1,233 ZIPs have data; median 16%.
