The snowiest ZIP codes in Ohio
1,229 of 1,233 Ohio ZIP codes have a figure; the median one has 24 inches a year.
Ohio's snow does not fall evenly. The counties closest to Lake Erie's eastern shore sit in the snowbelt, where cold air crossing the open lake picks up moisture and drops it as lake-effect snow the moment it reaches land, sometimes feet of it in one band while a town twenty miles inland stays dry. Move away from the lake and south toward the Ohio River, and average snowfall drops off sharply.
This ranks the 25 snowiest Ohio ZIP codes by average annual snowfall at the nearest weather station to each one's population center, using NOAA's thirty-year climate normals. A single winter can run well above or below that normal in either direction; this is what a typical year looks like, not a forecast.

How this was measured
NOAA's 1991-2020 climate normals, the thirty-year averages weather forecasters mean by "normal": annual snowfall on the map, with mean temperature, January lows and July highs, days at 90°F or above and below freezing, rainfall, and heating and cooling degree days on the card. Ohio has 130 stations with temperature normals, 252 with precipitation and only 93 with snowfall, so each ZIP borrows from the nearest station reporting each element and names it. The Lake Erie snowbelt east of Cleveland gets four to five times the snow of the Ohio River counties. The card also carries the county's drought history from the U.S. Drought Monitor: weeks in drought since 2020, the worst spell since 2000 and the current status. NOAA's county series since 1895 gives the long-run warming and the change in yearly rainfall.
1,229 of 1,233 ZIP codes have a figure; ZIP codes without one are left off the list, not counted as zero. Ties are broken by ZIP code.
Every ZIP code's own page carries the full detail behind its figure, and the Climate topic page ranks the whole state.
