How Walbridge began
Walbridge was surveyed in June 1874 for landowners Emeretta and Harriet Warner, with a post office established a few years earlier in 1871, in the swampland of Lake Township near Toledo. It grew slowly for decades -- the 1897 county history notes that railroads ran through and around it while it waited its turn for growth -- before finally incorporating as a village in 1912, well after its neighbors on the Toledo side of the county line had industrialized.
Platted surveyed June 1874 by George Kirk for Emeretta and Harriet Warner, incorporated village, 1912, by Emeretta and Harriet Warner (platters); Ohio village incorporation.

Stories
A village waiting for its era
By the mid-1890s, Walbridge already sat surrounded by railroad lines running through and around it, and the county's own historian could see exactly what the village might become: less a country hamlet than a future suburb of Toledo. But that future was still decades off. The village had only a single shared house of worship, the Union church built in 1889-90 by public subscription so any religious body could use it, and no incorporation of its own; it would hold its place, as the historian put it, 'as in 1874, waiting the era of progress' for another generation before the paperwork of village government finally caught up with the town's geography in 1912.

Mostly estimated. Only 1% of these days come from a gauge standing inside Walbridge - the rest are worked out from the nearest gauges around it, so read them as close estimates rather than readings.
56,914 days of records, 1871-01-01 to 2026-10-28. Source: NOAA NCEI GHCN-Daily, 3,240 gauges in and around Ohio. A day is "gauged" when a gauge standing inside the boundary reported it, and the value is the mean of those gauges. Otherwise it is interpolated by inverse distance from every gauge reporting within 50 miles. Nothing is carried forward, back-filled or smoothed. Against NOAA nClimDiv county monthly precipitation over 136,848 complete county-months (checked 2026-10-31): correlation 0.9515, median absolute difference 0.217 in a month. Built 2026-10-31 from the Cracked Buckeye precipitation archive. Snow is the softer number — snowfall is measured by hand with a ruler, no agency publishes a gridded county snowfall series, and blowing snow defeats every observer.

Facilities are placed on the map from Ohio EPA's own map layers, EPA's Facility Registry, coordinates written in the filings, or a geocoded street address. A permit filed under a private person's name (most are household septic systems) is counted but never named, placed or linked; licenses for individual workers and open-burning notices are left out entirely.
