Life story
Agnes Thomas Morris was born in London, Ohio, in 1865, the daughter of Welsh-born parents; her father was a Congregational pastor. Hearing loss from childhood kept her out of teacher training.
She studied at Mount Union College (class of 1887) and the National School of Oratory in Philadelphia, and married Robert Carlton Morris in 1891. They had two children, Vivian and Robert.
In 1918 she was elected national president of the War Mothers of America. She led the Ohio Shakespeare Association, was a vice president of the Shakespeare Association of America, wrote the textbook Every Day with Shakespeare and, in the 1930s, several one-act plays with Shakespeare as a character. She was widowed in 1942 and died in Toledo in 1949.
