Life story
Roundhead, called Stiahta, Stayeghtha or Bark Carrier, was a Wyandot war leader born about 1760 near the Sandusky River. His brother was Leatherlips, executed in 1810, and he served under Tarhe.
He fought at Fallen Timbers in 1794 and signed the Treaty of Greenville in 1795. In 1800 he signed a land treaty near the Detroit River.
In the War of 1812 he was Tecumseh's closest Wyandot ally. He fought at Brownstown, Detroit, the Second Battle of the River Raisin on January 22, 1813, where he captured Gen. James Winchester, and the siege of Fort Meigs.
He died in August 1813 in Upper Canada, weeks before Tecumseh. Roundhead, Ohio, in Hardin County, was established in 1832 and carries his name.
