Life story
Arthur G. Spangler started his business on August 20, 1906, as the Spangler Manufacturing Company. He began at 204 West High Street in Bryan, after buying the Gold Leaf Baking Powder Company of Defiance for $450.
In 1913 the company moved to North Portland Street in Bryan, where it still has its headquarters. Dum Dums lollipops were invented in 1924 by another maker, and Spangler bought the rights and equipment in 1953 from the Akron Candy Company of Bellevue, Ohio.
Today the company turns out over 12 million Dum Dums a day.
Little more is on record about his own life, so his birth and death dates and family are not given.
