Ohio's list of oil and gas wells runs to 242,324. Map by ZIP

The Ohio Department of Natural Resources' public inventory of oil and gas wells runs to 242,324 records. 60,982 are listed as producing and 107,341 as plugged; 29,899 are permits that were never drilled or wells that inspectors could not find, and 44,102 have another or unknown status. In 288 ZIP codes there are more than 200 on the list. Status is as ODNR lists it, and bigger ZIPs hold more simply because they are bigger.
