How Richland Township, Clinton County began
Richland Township was organized April 6, 1810 as one of Clinton County's three original townships, covering the county's northeast corner within the Virginia Military District. It later lost ground as Wilson, Wayne, Green and Liberty townships were carved from it. The village of Sabina, platted in 1830 by Warren Sabin, sits in the township's east; Reesville and Melvin are smaller unincorporated communities to the west. The township remains rural farmland crossed by the 3C Highway (US 22/SR 3).
Incorporated 1810, by Clinton County Commissioners.
Where the name comes from

Stories
A diner that never left
Diner car #4655, built by the Paterson Vehicle Company of Paterson, New Jersey (trading as Silk City Diners) and dated 1946, stands at 303 Washington Street in Sabina. Silk City built about 1,500 prefabricated diners between 1926 and 1966, meant to be trucked in nearly complete and bolted to a foundation; most did not survive the century. Sabina's did, and stayed a working diner long enough to be listed on the National Register of Historic Places on August 10, 2005, one of a handful of Silk City cars still recognized nationally. It continued to operate as a local diner (Kim's Classic Diner) into the 2020s, a stainless-steel survivor on a village main street.
