Text messages introduced at the February 2023 federal racketeering trial of Larry Householder and lobbyist Matt Borges indicated Yost privately viewed the House Bill 6 bailout as a bad bill but did not publicly oppose it because of financial and political support he had received from FirstEnergy and Borges; Yost had accepted $24,208 from FirstEnergy and Borges and donated that amount to charity in October 2020 after federal HB6 arrests were made.
