Life story

Thomas Kirker was born about 1760 in County Tyrone, Ireland. He moved to Lancaster, Pennsylvania, in 1779, lived for a time in Kentucky and in 1793 settled in Liberty Township, Adams County. He married Sarah Smith in 1790.

He was a delegate to the 1802 constitutional convention and then served in the Ohio House and Senate. He was Speaker of the Senate several times and, in 1807-1808, Ohio's second governor. He lost the 1808 election and went back to farming.
