Life story

Mary Ellen Reynolds was born in Evansville, Indiana, in 1898. Her mother, Ada, later married Oscar Caro Miller, and the family built a vaudeville act around the child.

The family used Findlay, Ohio, as its home base while it toured the Midwest and Europe for about ten years. She made her stage debut in Dayton in 1902 at age four.

Lee Shubert saw her in London in 1914, and from 1918 to 1930 she was a Broadway headliner for Florenz Ziegfeld. She made three films in 1929-1931, gave her last performance in As Thousands Cheer, and died in New York in 1936 at 37.
